Now that you know you can absolutely earn money online in the comforts of your home, took some online classes and training to learn a new skill or two, it’s now time to hunt some clients.
The next step you will take is to know how to sell your services and maximize the skills you learned to start earning.
Here is a guide that can help you land a client fast!
Who are you?
The first thing a potential client asks for job applications is a resume. They want to know who you are and what you can do.
Many aspiring Virtual Assistants make mistakes in creating an impressive resume.
Make it brief – Clients go through several resumes in a day and don’t really have the time to read everything written in a resume.
Only add important information – Your name, all your contact information, any online professional platform links like LinkedIn and your website if you have any.
A common mistake in a resume is the education part. There’s no need to include all of your education histories. If you graduated from a university or college, then there is no need to include your high school information, it’s understood that you graduated high school.
What are the skills you offer?
You may think you are a jack of all trades and can do it all, and maybe you can, but is it necessary to put it all in your profile or resume?
Clients will only look at a couple of skills and will only look for the skill that they really need.
What you need to do is to pick a skill you know you can ace even if your eyes are closed. Be straight forward with your description, no need to add any fancy words to sugarcoat the services you offer.
You can also add any achievement or recognition you received with this specific skill.
What are your points of difference from your competitors?
This is a common question often asked in interviews, “What makes you different from the other applicants?” Prepare your point of difference. What makes you unique and catch the attention of your potential client?
Ask yourself:
- What are the services I can offer to my client? Did I go through special training to be an expert in this particular service?
- Do I have a technical or creative mind?
- Am I a go-getter, adaptable, and/or flexible?
- Do I know how to use a system to make their work more efficient?
- What are the core values that I can exhibit?
These are some of the questions you can ask yourself to know what sets you apart from others who can also offer the same services as you do.
It is important to point out at least 2-3 point of difference and explain why those traits are what makes you a strong candidate.
Create a Sales Pitch!
Being a Virtual Assistant is all about selling your self. You need to promote yourself first.
Paint the picture, figure out a way on how you can show to your potential clients how your services can make their lives easier and how you can grow their business.
On your pitch, you can:
- Explain what you can do, how you are able to help them save time and money by hiring you
- What you can do for them so they have more free time on their hands and focus on other important work
- What value you can create for their business
Give Concrete Example
The best way to prove to a potential client of your worth and capabilities is by providing them your portfolio or sample work.
When you pitch for your services, you also need to give them clear evidence of similar work or tasks you have done in the past.
Some clients ask their applicants to do a sample task for them to see if they fit the role they are looking for.
Prepare a portfolio or if you have a website, you can share them a link so they can review it. If you are asked to create a sample task, make sure to give it your best and impress them with your work.
